Victorian Oval Amethyst Pendant set with Two Rose Diamond Stars with Diamond Set Bale

236N
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual pendant that was made circa 1880. It is composed of an oval large with two gold stars set with a rose in each one. It has a rose diamond set too. The literal meaning of the stars is “You are both eternal stars”. Amethyst is an extremely powerful and protective stone. I found this wonderful quote online. “Traditionally, it was worn to prevent drunkenness and has a sobering effect on overindulgence and physical passions, supporting sobriety it overcomes addictions and blockages of all kinds” A much better explanation of the use of an amethyst in this piece is that the royal purple colour was used to symbolise Christ. Saint Valentine was thought to wear a ring set with an Amethyst carved with an image of Cupid. So it represents true love between two people.
