Victorian Novelty Brooch of Three Swallows on a Bullrush set with Rose Diamonds

514U
Written by Olly Gerrish

Three little swallows sitting on a bullrush just passing the time of day. Each bird has been studded with graduated rose diamonds and they have small eyes. Swallows are birds known to mate for life, and they always return to their nests after time away. They were therefore used in many cases to signify love and constancy across both distance and time. Jewellery featuring swallows was often given to young couples or exchanged between them on their wedding day, and was worn by both men and women.
The brooch is gold and the rose diamonds are set in .
