Victorian Multi-Gem Harlequin Necklace

655 R
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

There is a spirit of adventure in this pretty late necklace, dating to around 1900. The word harlequin means ‘many coloured’, and finds its origins in the vivacious costume of a character of that name from the 16th century commedia del’arte. Invariably, this style of necklace is all about colour. The gold fancy anchor link chain measures 40 cm in length and is suspended with a feast of graduated oval cut graduated gemstones, including colourless rock-crystal , smoky purple , burnt orange and deep red garnets, corn yellow , and pastel blue . And with twenty-one gems to count, it would make a great gift to mark a very special birthday.

Ollys Pick

This is such an impressive look when worn!
