Victorian Gold & Silver Snake Pendant set with Rose Diamonds with Ruby Eyes

780X
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual Victorian snake pendant that was made circa 1880. It has been claw set with graduated rose diamonds and two cabochon rubies in his eyes.  The reverse is 15ct gold.

Snakes featured heavily in the myths of ancient Greece and Rome. They were respected for their ability to shed their skin, meaning that they were seen as a symbol of regeneration and rebirth. This association with regeneration and fertility suggests links to the Victorian connotations between snakes and eternal love.

A wonderful pendant that sends a charming message to the receiver.
