Victorian Gold Ring with a Carved Garnet of a Cherub’s Head

385F
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 18ct gold Victorian ring which is very well designed and has at it’s centre a carved garnet of a cherub’s head. The cherub is a type of angel that is usually shown in art as a beautiful young child with small wings and a round face and body. The Victorians were very sentimental and this is clearly a husband’s gift to his wife  perhaps to celebrate the birth of a child, someone (such as a child) who is thought of as being like a small angel.
