It has a rope design from which is attached a swivel section that has an oval shaped bloodstoneA dark green to dark bluish-green variety of Chalcedony that is splattered with red or brown spots that resemble blood. The extent of the marking varies depending on the stone. Spots are favoured over larger stripes and markings. on one side and a carnelianA translucent red variety of chalcedony which in its turn is a form of cryptocrystalline quartz. Carnelian has been known and used since antiquity when it was sourced from the surfaces of the Egyptian and Arabian deserts. The most prized carnelian has a true blood-red color. on the other. Sometimes these stones have been engraved with a monogram or a crest. They would have been worn attached to an Albert chainA style of watch chain popularised by Prince Albert in the Victorian period. Traditionally this style of watch chain has a bar on one end used to attach the chain to a vest button hole. The opposite end of the chain is fitted with a swivel hook to attach the watch, which is then worn in a vest pocket. which went across a man’s chest and had attachments to hold seals and a watch. Nowadays they can be worn as a small collection or on their own on a chain or a bracelet.
