Victorian 9ct Gold Guard Chain

939W
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good gold that was made circa 1880-1900. The links are slightly so that they catch the light when worn and each link has hidden inner links which stop the chain wearing, an ingenious Victorian invention. They lead to a dog clip at the end which was usually used to attach a pocket watch or a cylinder of fur known as a muff to keep the wearer’s hands warm in winter. It can be worn twice or three times around the neck. We also have another slightly heavier guard chain in stock.
