Victorian 18ct Gold, Three Stone Turquoise and Rose Diamond Ring

196S
Written by Olly Gerrish

The distinctive blue of the reminded the Victorian’s of the forget-me-knot flower, so it follows that the stone’s use in jewellery was intended as a symbol of love and affection. Being a porous stone, it often discolours to a greenish tone over time, but this example defies its age, with each of the three graduated cabochons remaining as bright as the flower it was named after. The distinctive gold design, with its fluted and central border, suggests it dates to around 1880. Robust and interesting, it would make a wonderful alternative to the classical engagement ring.
