122M
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good gold snake necklace that was made circa 1860-1880. The chain is graduated like a snake’s body. The snake’s head has been set with graded with two garnets for the eyes. Suspended from it’s mouth is a heart set with six turquoise in a “Forget me not” design. Most jewellery is full of hidden meanings. In the Victorian era it became very fashionable to wear snake jewellery after Prince Albert proposed to Queen Victoria with the very first engagement ring, which was in the image of a snake with an emerald-set head.
