Victorian 18ct Gold Ring set with a Cabochon Garnet

463R
Written by Olly Gerrish

A well designed Victorian 18ct gold ring that was made circa 1860-1880. At that time there was a huge fashion for cabochon garnets as it was known as “The Holbeinesque period” which harked back to the Renaissance period. The style was rich and sumptuous with pendants set with chrysolite and diamonds with a garnet in the centre and elaborate enamel decoration throughout. Rings were made to compliment these pieces and this example is typical and has been set with a cabochon garnet surrounded by a rope work design. The shank consists of two conjoined wires which are knotted at each shoulder.

It is a lovely ring to wear on a daily basis
