Victorian 18ct Gold Puzzle Double Snake Ring set with Turquoise & Garnets

73U
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A rare gold double snake ring that was made circa 1880 and is most likely of German or Austrian origin. It consists of two bands that link together in a puzzle design.  The snakes tails have been set with tiny graduated and the backs of the heads have been set with split pearls.  The eyes are garnets.  19th Century jewellery was full of secret meanings. The two snakes are a symbol of  eternal love that unites two people.  The use of turquoise means “Forget me not” after the flower of the same name. This ring cannot be resized.
