Victorian 18ct Gold, Opal & Diamond Five Stone Ring

106T
40 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

A pretty 18ct gold ring that was made circa 1880. It has been claw set with three well-matched opals and old mine cut diamonds set in between. Opals have come to mean various things over the years and some people think that they are unlucky. After vast opal deposits were found in Australia in 1887, Queen Victoria did her best to dispel any superstitions concerning them, by giving opal jewellery to her children, friends and family. They are stunning stones and vary greatly in colour. The ring curves nicely around the finger and sits low down.
