Victorian 18ct Gold Fede Ring with Diamond set Heart

859S
Written by Olly Gerrish

This style of ring goes back to Roman times if not before. It is known as a “” ring which is a design of ring in which two hands meet and are clasped in friendship, love or betrothal. It became prominent in the medieval period from the 12th century onwards and in more modern times. The name fede is from the Italian phrase “mani in fede” or “hands clasped in faith”. In this example there is a heart set with a in the centre with the hands on either side, as opposed to being hidden. It is a wonderful expression of love and would make a perfect and unusual engagement ring. It is gold and was made in Birmingham in 1899.
