Victorian 18ct Gold, Emerald and Diamond Three Stone Ring

112S
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

The fresh green of an emerald evokes lush landscapes, new beginnings, and adventure. In fact, it was once believed that an emerald placed under the tongue would allow you to predict the future.  This mid Victorian 18ct gold ring, dating to around 1850, centres on a square step-cut emerald, which, considering the date of the ring and the nature of the stone, is likely to be of Colombian origin.  The two cushion cut diamonds are lovely and bright, and the chased foliate scrollwork shoulders give the ring an interesting profile.  A wonderful and impressive ring that would be a perfect dress or engagement ring.

Condition
Very good overall condition. There is very minor abrasion to the facet edges on the emerald, and it has been cut shallow, meaning it has lost saturation in colour and has a mint green hue. The diamonds are lovely and bright. There are sizing beads in the shank which can easily be removed.
