Victorian 15ct Gold Prince of Wales Feathers Brooch set with Rubies & Emeralds

56U
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A wonderful rare Victorian brooch that features the Prince of Wales feathers. The origins trace back to Edward the Black Prince (1330-1376) who was the eldest son and heir apparent to Edward 111. He chose three ostrich feathers as an alternative to his Royal Arms following the Battle of Crecy in 1346. The Prince of Wales feathers are still used today for the William, Prince of Wales. This brooch has been beautifully made with fine engraved detail, and has been set with three foiled emeralds and two rubies.
