Victorian 15ct Gold Chain Interspersed with Three Oval Etruscan Revival Sections

691W
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 15ct gold chain that was made circa 1860. It has been interspersed with three ornate sections that have been decorated with hand applied gold. This style of work is called Etruscan Revival. Although granulation, embossing, and filigree had been used in Mesopotamia and Egypt much earlier, the Etruscans perfected the techniques to a very high level. The delicacy and technical precision were a complete novelty for that time in the 5th to 8th century AD. This highly detailed and complicated technique was rediscovered by Castellani in the mid 1800s and copied by many other other jewellers.

Wearable on an every day basis.
