Mexican Silver & Malachite Collar by the Monteros Workshop

352M
Written by Olly Gerrish

An amazing vintage Mexican Taxco MONTEROS 970 Sterling Silver Modernist silver and malachite necklace. It is in the Cleopatra bib style and has thirty six fluted and bevelled segments that are designed to follow the natural contours of your neckline. Despite it’s substantial weight this necklace is as comfortable to wear as it is eye catching to view. It is hallmarked MEXICO MONTEROS M 970, with the M standing for Monteros and 970 representing the silver purity. TM-100, noting the piece was crafted in Mexico’s renowned “Silver City” TAXCO with the number 100 being the registration number issued to the Monteros silver workshop by the Mexican government. The Monteros workshop was a high-end Taxco silver house that specialised in extremely well made works of silver jewellery usually with various semi-precious gemstone inlays. This necklace, dates to the late 1970s or early 1980s and was originally sold for around twelve hundred dollars. It is stunning and spectacular, a sensuous, fully articulated Mexican masterpiece. It has a tongue and groove box closure and is in very good condition.
