Georgian Pineapple Cut Coral Beads

163U
Written by Olly Gerrish

A pretty necklace that is composed of graduated coral beads. They have each been carved in what is commonly known as a pineapple motif.  Pineapples are traditionally a symbol of friendliness, celebration and hospitality.  So coral beads were often given as a Christening present to welcome the newborn.  The coral in this necklace came from Naples in Italy. The box clasp is 9ct gold. It was made circa 1820. It has been newly restrung so it is in good order
