Georgian Gold & Blue Paste Pendant

308W
Written by Olly Gerrish

A stunning and rare gold pendant that was made circa 1820. It has been pinched collet set with eight closed and foiled backed pear shaped blue pastes and a square that simulate aquamarines. Paste is hand cut glass that has been polished with metal powder until it shimmers like gemstones. This was a hugely time consuming task and at the time it was a cheaper alternative to the real thing. Paste jewels were common in the Georgian era as stones were not only expensive but hard to come by. Nowadays Georgian paste is sought after in its own right as it has such charm. It is in excellent condition with no condensation behind the pastes.
