Georgian Giardinetto Ring set with Rose Diamonds

839T
Written by Olly Gerrish

The name Giardinetto comes from the Italian word for “Little garden” and the naturalistic style first appeared towards the end of the 17th century. It gathered popularity in the 18th century onwards. This ring dates from around 1760-1780 and is composed of an openwork foliate cluster.  It would originally have been given as a token of love. The original has worn away so although the decoration on the sides survive it has been re shanked at some . This does not affect the overall look of this pretty and unusual ring.
