Georgian Giardinetto Brooch set with Diamonds in Original Case

327W
40 Admirers
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a special brooch that was made circa 1820. It is a silver pierced openwork design of a flower spray and has been set with a mixture of old mine cut and rose diamonds and is presented in a tooled Burgundy red Moroccan leather case. The name “Giardinetto” comes from the Italian word for “Little garden” and the naturalistic style first appeared towards the end of the 17th century. It gathered popularity in the 18th century onwards. This brooch is a lovely example and looks wonderful when worn.
