Georgian Diamond Cluster Ring with Flower Motifs on the Shoulders

923U
Written by Olly Gerrish

A rare Georgian ring that has been set in silver settings with a mixture of rose diamonds and one table cut diamond. It was made circa 1820 and in those days the jewellers worked with the stones that they had on the bench so the charm of these early rings is that they are not symmetrical. The diamonds glitter in a subtle way unlike modern brilliant cut stones as they were meant to be seen in candlelit settings. This ring has a charming gold shank with a flower on either side where it meets the top. It may well have been a betrothal ring.
