Georgian Almandine Garnet Flower Spray Giardinetti Brooch

719S
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A beautiful and large Georgian silver flower spray brooch. “Giardinetti” is the word used to describe this style. This literally means a small garden of flowers in Italian.  This style of jewellery reflected the delicate and elegantly composed fashions of the Rococo period, as well as in keeping with the floral embroidered gowns that were in vogue from the 1740s to 1780s.  The almandine garnets have been cut to special shapes and are foiled at the back which gives the stones luminescence. This brooch originally had a screw fitting for a comb or a tiara. It was made circa 1780.

Ollys Pick

This is a wonderful survival from the mid Georgian era.
