Georgian 18ct Gold & White Enamel Ring from 1806

390W
Written by Olly Gerrish

Mourning rings were a common memorial for a family member in the early 19th century and rings such as this 18ct gold example were commissioned and given to members of the family when someone died. This ring commemorates the life of Merrick Lloyd who died on the 15th of may 1806 aged 20. The white enamel indicates that he was not married. A poignant reminder that life was short back then.
