Georgian 18ct Gold & Silver, Diamond Cluster Ring with rose Diamond set Shoulders

721R
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is such a pretty ring that was made circa 1820. In the centre is a half . Around it are twelve diamond with further rose cut diamonds in a slanting design on either side of the cluster. The rose cut originated in the 1500’s and was commonly used through the and eras. Like other diamond cuts, they were cut by hand and meant to dazzle under candlelight. The facets performed exquisitely in low light conditions. diamonds have a smaller , high crown, and 58 larger facets. They differ from modern diamonds in that old mine cut diamonds have bulkier proportions. They were chosen so that the diamonds would sparkle under candlelight. A lovely ring for someone who loves Georgian jewels!
