Georgian 18ct Gold Ring with a Snake Coiled Around an Old Mine Cut Diamond

220W
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual 18ct gold ring that was made circa 1820. The top is composed of a snake eating his own tail. This is known as an ouroboros. The ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a snake or serpent eating its own tail, signifying infinity and the cycle of birth and death. In the centre is a beautiful claw set old mine cut diamond that has an estimate weight over three quarters of a carat. The shoulders are a fern design with a further snake’s head on either side. An extraordinary ring that would grace any collector’s finger!
