Georgian 18ct Gold, Enamel & Bloodstone Opening Bomboniere Pendant

900M
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual egg shaped pendant that that hinges open to a hollow interior. It was made in France circa 1800-1820. There is an enamelled saying around the middle that reads “Voyez et Souvenez” in French “See and remember”. It was perhaps a mourning piece of jewellery, or it could have been given as a wedding present, which was a Continental custom to give Bombonieres. Often they contained almonds or even a wedding ring. This piece is too small for either of those things so I can only conclude that it was a decorative piece of jewellery.
