Georgian 18ct Gold & Carnelian Ring with Roman Intaglio of Woman, Altar & Deer

755S
Written by Olly Gerrish

An interesting gold ring that was made circa 1800-1820. The is Roman and depicts a woman standing in front of a round altar with an olive or laurel branch and a deer below. This subject may represent Diana Nemorensis or, alternatively, Iphigenia in the story recounted by Servius. An unusual ring to wear that will be sure to attract comment.
