Georgian 18ct Gold Acrostic Ring with Gemstones That Spell Regard

679W
Written by Olly Gerrish

A very pretty 18ct gold late Georgian ring that was made circa 1800-1820. It is composed of a pansy which is a pun on the French words “Pensee a moi” which mean “Think of me”. The stones are Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby and a Diamond in the centre. The first letter of each stone spells “Regard”. The shank has foliage repoussé shell and flowers motifs on the shoulders. There is also a small glazed locket on the reverse that would have orinally held a lock of hair.

These rings were highly popular in the early 1800s and were given as tokens of love.
