Georgian 15ct Gold Acrostic Ring that Spells Regard

644P
Written by Olly Gerrish

A very pretty late Georgian ring that was made circa 1800-1820. It is composed of a pansy which is a pun on the French words “Pensee a moi” which mean “Think of me”. The stones are Ruby, Emerald, Garnet, Amethyst, Ruby and a Diamond in the centre. The first letter of each stone spells “Regard”. The shank has foliage repoussé work on the shoulders. These rings were highly popular in the early 1800s and were given as tokens of love.
