Book Your Virtual ConsultationAn exceptional 18ct gold and silver bee brooch that was made circa 1880-1900 in France. The body of the bee has been set with a large baroque pearl and a peridot. The wings have been claw set with old mine cut diamonds within silver settings and the eyes are small cabochon cut rubies. There is a screw fitting on the reverse that attaches the body of the bee to it’s 18ct gold legs and feelers.
Bees were a popular subject in jewellery in the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Bees toil day and night so this brooch signifies ‘efficiency’ and ‘organisation’.
What a great gift to give to someone that you admire.
An amazing bee brooch!
