French Early 19th Century Riviere Necklace set with Citrines

333U
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a really beautiful 18ct gold riviere necklace that was made in France circa 1800-1820.  It is composed of twenty well matched oval faceted citrines that flow around the neck like a river of stones, hence the French term “Riviere”.  They have each been claw set with fine decorative claws.  In between each citrine are flowers.  Each one is surrounded by cannetille work composed of small florets.  At some point it has been lengthened with plain links but it can be shortened if wanted.
