French Belle Epoque Rose Diamond & Garnet Doublet Earrings

319/O
Written by Olly Gerrish

A good looking pair of gold earrings that were made in France circa 1900-1910. They have been set with doublets. A “Doublet” is an assembled or composite gem that is comprised of a top and a bottom, with an adhesive in the middle to fuse them together. Doublets were commonly used in and jewellery, and are known as “garnet doublets” to imitate , , and other coloured gemstones. So these earrings appear to be set with sapphires but are actually garnet doublets. They are surrounded by rose diamonds with a rose at the top of each earring. They have comfortable hinge back fittings.
