French 18ct Gold & Lapis Lazuli Earrings

131M
Written by Olly Gerrish

A very chic pair of gold drop earrings with lapis balls. is one of the most sought after stones in use since man’s history began. Its deep, celestial blue remains the symbol of royalty, gods and power, spirit, vision and Truth. In ancient times Lapis Lazuli was most highly regarded because of its beautiful colour. Its name comes from the Latin lapis, “stone,” and the Persian lazhuward, “blue.” In the early 1900s lapis was used in jewellery as it had become fashionable because of the Egyptian Excavations going on at the time. Lapis was very highly regarded in Egypt so quite a few pieces of jewellery set with lapis were discovered in the Royal tombs.
