Edwardian Garnet Flower & Half Moon Brooch

489L
Written by Olly Gerrish

This brooch was made circa 1900-1910 in Hungary which was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in those days. Garnets have been sourced in the mountains for hundreds of years there and have often been used to decorate salvers, ewers and jewellery. The metal has a very low gold content which all jewellery from this area in this style has. The design is pretty with a harvest moon and a flower symbolising the start of a relationship.
