Edwardian Elephant Brooch set with Diamonds, Ruby & a Natural Pearl

549R
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a wonderful and beautifully modelled brooch of an elephant that was made circa 1900-1910 and is most likely French. It has been set with rose cut diamonds in silver settings. He has a ruby eye and a gold tusk and his trunk is holding a natural pearl. The reverse is gold. Elephants hold significant meaning in many cultures and symbols of these majestic creatures have been depicted in mythology and religion for thousands of years. They represent strength and power. They also symbolise sensitivity, wisdom, stability, loyalty, intelligence, peace, reliability and determination, which are all seen in the animal’s nature when observed in the wild.
