Edwardian 9ct Back & Front Round Locket with Swallow & Roses Motif

Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a really pretty little round locket that was made circa 1910. It is marked “9ct Back & Front” which means that the front and back are 9ct gold and the inner frames and hinges are metal. On both sides is a swallow in flight above a branch of roses. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. It also meant “Everlasting love” and “loyalty” as swallows mate for life. It opens to reveal two areas for photographs.

What a lovely sentiment to pass on to someone that you love.
