Edwardian 9ct Back & Front Oval Locket with Engraved Swallow Detail

834S
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is a really pretty little oval locket that was made circa 1910. It is marked9ct Back & Front” which means that the front and back are 9ct gold and the inner frames and hinges are metal. On both sides is a swallow in flight above a branch of roses. The swallow was considered daring, risk-seeking, and a symbol of change for good in the future. It also meant “Everlasting love” and “loyalty” as swallows mate for life. The roses accentuate “Love”. It opens to reveal two areas for photographs. What a lovely sentiment to pass on to someone that you love.
