Edwardian 18ct Gold, Three Stone Sapphire & Diamond Gypsy Ring

478X
Written by Olly Gerrish

A lovely 18ct gold ring that was made in Chester in 1901.  It has been set with one old mine cut diamond and two sapphires within star shaped settings. The shoulders have incised scroll decoration.  This style of ring is known as a gypsy ring due to the star shaped settings. They were very popular in the late Victorian and early Edwardian periods and were often set with different coloured gemstones.

However this style is as wearable today as it was back then as an engagement or dress ring.
