Edwardian 18ct Gold & Platinum Diamond Cluster Ring with Stepped Shoulders

231N
Written by Olly Gerrish

an unusual yellow gold ring with a top that sits low on the finger so it is practical to wear. It was made circa 1910 and is composed of a central octagonal cluster of diamonds with geometric set with diamonds. The diamonds are all well matched white stones. There is millgrain detail on the platinum that adds to the overall design of the ring. This is when the edges of the metal have been worked with a knurling tool to produce tiny beads, hence the French name “Millgrain” meaning a thousand beads. It would make a pretty engagement ring.
