Edwardian 18ct Gold, Opal & Rose Diamond Oval Cluster Ring

862S
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

This 18ct gold ring is in pristine condition. It is eminently wearable as it sits low on the finger. It was made circa 1910-1920 and has been set with a beautiful Australian opal surrounded by well matched rose diamonds. The opal is a particularly good specimen and displays a myriad of flashing colours, red, green and blue. When Australian opals appeared on the world market in the 1890’s, the Hungarian mines spread the idea that it was not genuine, probably because gems with such brilliant fire had not been seen before. Australia eventually assumed the mantle of premier opal producer of the world, becoming famous for Lightning Ridge’s colourful and rare black and crystal stones. So they were an exciting new stone and became very fashionable in the Edwardian period. A beautiful ring that looks stunning when worn.

Ollys Pick

A stunning and very lively opal in this ring.
