Edwardian 18ct Gold Half Carved Half Hoop Five Stone Opal Ring

104P
Written by Olly Gerrish

A beautiful 18ct gold ring set five well matched precious opals with a good strong harlequin play of colour. Play of colour is the optical effort seen in Opals where they reflect a range of colours when light is shone on them. The best play of colour is where you can see a range of all the play of colours: yellow-green, orange-red and blue as seen in this ring. It is also known as harlequin. Normally this effort is best seen on black opals but this is an excellent example of harlequin play of colour on white opals. It has rose cut diamond points on either side of the opals that add a little extra sparkle to this ring. It was made circa 1900-1910.
