Early 20th Century Platinum, Red Spinel Solitaire Ring with Diamond set Shoulders

437X
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

Spinels date back to approximately 100BC as they have been found in Buddhist tombs in Afghanistan. The Romans also favoured them and used them in rings etc. They were fashionable in the Renaissance period and in the 18th century. This platinum ring is not as old, probably around 130 years old !  However it has been claw set with a beautiful saturated pinkish red spinel that weighs approximately 1.71 carats. The shoulders have been claw set with two small diamonds on either side.

An unusual engagement ring perhaps?
