Early 20th Century Opal & Diamond Cluster Ring

53T
Written by Olly Gerrish

A beautiful 18ct white gold with a platinum top ring that was made circa 1920. It has been set with a lovely cabochon cut opal that displays high flashes of green, blue and red. It is surrounded by nine well matched good white diamonds. In ancient times, people wore this stone for various reasons. Many considered the opal to be beneficial to the eye and wore it to cure eye diseases. Some even believed it could render the carrier invisible. Supposedly, carrying an opal wrapped in a fresh bay leaf would keep others from seeing you. It is a wonderful looking ring either way!
