Diamond, Cat’s Eye & Opal Bee Brooch

448E
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

As a symbol of love bee meaning was associated with Cupid during the Renaissance. Bees are depicted stinging Cupid, the god of love with the blindness of love, and leaping into passion without regard to consequence. Apparently, Cupid is often shown dipping into honey, without thought to potential danger of protective bees. The Renaissance lesson here is “Beware of love’s sting.” So whatever this bee may mean to you this is an interesting slant!  The brooch was made circa 1900 and is set with rose diamonds , a split and a (crysoberyl) and has two eyes.
