Art Nouveau Plique-à-Jour Enamel & Diamond Ring

27P
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

A very unusual ring that was made circa 1900-1910 in Germany. It is a beautiful flowing design featuring a flower and two leaves that typified the Art Nouveau style. The flower has been set with an . In between is green . The term plique-à-jour (French for “letting in daylight”) is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically. It is a delightful and very pretty ring.
