Art Nouveau 18ct Gold Ring set with a Garnet

279X

Written by Olly Gerrish

For lovers of Art Nouveau jewellery this 18ct gold ring is typical of the movement.  It was made circa 1900-1910 and is composed of sinuous stylised leaves around an oval cabochon cut garnet. The Art Nouveau movement was a reaction to the stultifying designs of the Victorian period. Instead there was a return to the natural world  with flowing motifs inspired by botanical flowers and leaves. Makers of furniture, textiles and jewellery were all affected by the change and they created some wonderful designs that are so collectable today.

This ring is a superb example of the movement.
