Art Nouveau 18ct Gold Lily of the Valley Ring with Plique a Jour Enamel & Diamonds

275R
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

This is such a pretty ring that was made circa 1900-1910 and is typical of the Art Nouveau period with it’s botanical design of a lily of the valley flower and leaves. The flower has been set with small old mine cut diamonds and there is further rose diamond detail to the leaf and shank. The green leaf is plique a jour enamel. Plique a jour is French for “letting in daylight”. An amazing process as it is a vitreous enamelling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. A beautiful and rare ring
