Art Nouveau 14ct Gold & Platinum, Diamond Giardinetti Ring

452S
Rare Find
Written by Olly Gerrish

An unusual “Giardinetti” ring that was made circa 1900-1910 and is most likely of Austrian origin. Flowers were a fashionable theme in jewellery during the second half of the 18th century. and ‘giardinetti’ items (from the Italian, meaning ‘little garden’) became popular. They had tiny blossoms set with an assortment of precious stones, asymmetrically arranged, and were given as tokens of love. The idea continued through the Victorian era and in to the Art Nouveau period. This 14ct gold ring has been claw set with five graduated old European cut diamonds with tiny rose diamonds in the stem. It is a lovely example and so wearable.

Ollys Pick
