Art Deco Platinum, Emerald & Diamond Octagonal Shaped Ring

501T
Written by Olly Gerrish

A very pretty platinum ring that was made in the 1920s. It has been set with a rectangular shaped emerald that is a good even colour and most likely of Columbian origin.  It is surrounded by twelve well matched white diamonds in an octagonal setting. The edges of the platinum have been millgrained.  This is when the edges of the metal have been worked with a knurling tool to produce tiny beads, hence the French name “Millgrain” meaning a thousand beads.  The shoulders are trifurcated that gives the ring a light and pretty look. It is a lovely ring and would be ideal as an engagement ring as it sits low on the finger so it is practical to wear on a daily basis.
